Could you tell us something about your experience with park, recreation, open space and environmental policy issues?
I have served for 13 years on the EBRPD PAC, first appointed by Director Radke and for the last five years appointed by the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors. The PAC regularly considers policy issues and advises the Board on the issues presented to the PAC. In this capacity, I believe I have had an impact on important issues, such as the well-reasoned balancing accomplished in the Master Plan.
Have you served in any leadership positions in any organization(s)? If so, please state details.
The most significant leadership position arose from my service on the Contra Costa BAR Association Board of Directors for 11 years. In 2005 I was elevated to President of the County BAR Association. I was honored to have this leadership role among the lawyers of my county as the head of their professional association. My key initiative during my tenure as President was to have the BAR engage in long term strategic planning (10 year projections of how Contra Costa would evolve) for the first time. I have attained a Martindale / Hubble rating of A/V as an attorney, the highest rating available based on peer review for legal competency and ethics.
What do you think are the most important issues facing the Park District?
Environmental sustainability, successful implementation of the 2013 Master Plan and the Successful implementation of the 2017 General Manager’s Budget District – Wide Performance Measures.
